As development of our uniquely hyper-realistic metaverse experience continues apace, we are delighted to announce this work in progress look at one of the many in-world gaming experiences we are currently building.
Everdome’s compact and resistant Ground Effect Vehicles, or ‘’Endurance’’ Moon Skimmers, will be part of our diverse metaverse environment, allowing our Evernauts to take time for an immersive & unique experience of Moon based exploration during our journey to Mars, from Earth’s Lower Orbit, for this immersive and unique experience of Moon based exploration.
Our Moon Skimmers are located at the future Lunar South Pole Listening Station near Port Shackleton. Port Shackleton itself is a moon base with 150,000 residents, a place acting as a relay point to the outer solar system where explorers pick up much needed fuel, food, water and other supplies.
This Listening Station is a relay station and listening station in one, whose enormous satellite dish is located on a far enough side of the Moon to limit radio noise from Earth, but close enough to the near side to still act as a transmitter for two way communication.
In keeping with Everdome’s commitment to grounding our experience in real science and space exploration theory, current NASA plans indicate that a future permanent base on the Moon will most likely be located in this area.
This area of Shackleton's Crater is unique, as it not only holds the Moon’s biggest deposit of water ice, but also has areas permanently sheltered from Earth’s radio noise.
Furthermore, this area hosts the two totally contrasting regions - The Points of Eternal Light - where the Sun never goes below the horizon, as well as the region of eternal darkness where this large deposit of water ice can be found.
At the sites of eternal light, sunlight is always available for solar energy conversion into electricity, potentially making them good locations for future Moon landings.
Temperature across this area of Shackleton’s Crater as a whole is also more favorable than at more equatorial latitudes, as it does not experience the daily temperature extremes that veer from 100 °C when the Sun is overhead, to −150 °C during the lunar night.
This proximity of water, permanent sunlight and closeness to the Moon's far side creates a unique and perfect location for robust, lasting operations allowing the development of a complex lunar economy and culture.
Everdome’s Skimmers are named ‘’Endurance’’ after Ernest Shackleton’s ship, the vessel of the famous polar explorer who lends both Port Shackleton and Shackleton crater their names.
