Continuing our Everdome Uncovered series, we take a look at the developments involved in building both the metaverse as a whole, as well as the specific tasks Everdome works on in bringing our uniquely hyper-realistic vision of a metaverse destination to life.
There are many open questions regarding the metaverse’s developmental landscape. Examples include UX developments to accommodate the complexity of VR, governance of behavior inside a decentralized metaverse, as well as themes of security and safety for users.
However, we start by taking a brief look at three of the most important technical developments to solve for the metaverse ecosystem as a whole, namely scalability, consistency and interoperability.
If the metaverse is to achieve its potential as the next iteration of a more inclusive, private, and shared internet, it will have billions of users.
This means scalability and performance are critical. The infrastructure supporting metaverse experiences must be capable of handling large amounts of traffic with significantly more complex data, systems, and platforms.
For believable virtual experiences where metaverse inhabitants directly interact in hyper-realistic settings and in real time, low degrees of lag and latency are key.
Everdome is exploring multiple ways to manage this situation, from combining single and multi-user experiences inside our metaverse world, to devising unique solutions for management of high-fidelity environments.
It’s both conducting product development & leading feasibility research.
A true metaverse must be able to maintain a consistent, persistent state throughout billions, if not trillions of constant interactions within and between different metaverse destinations. This requires development of complex algorithms and systems to store, manage and update vast amounts of data in real-time.
For example, to manage avatar mobility, a metaverse platform must always know the location of each avatar. To provide a seamless experience for users interacting within the platform, systems must refresh thousands of coordinate points multiple times per second for each user.
This only covers mobility. Once vocal communication, sounds, and free movement for each avatar are considered, the amount of data managed significantly exceeds that currently handled by Web2 applications.
This is especially true for Everdome, as our commitment to a high fidelity and hyper-realistic experience demands the development of complex systems.
Everdome is currently building an environment that both suits current technology as well as adapting for the future. Our Metaverse Creative Director, Matt Tokarz, adds:
‘’At this point Everdome is way further in terms of realism of the world than other metaverse or proto-metaverse experiences.’’
