Everdome enjoys a sizeable Japanese community of supporters, so to reflect this we launch an interactive celebration space to recognize Japanese Golden week, which encompasses four national holidays of Japan.

First established in 1948, Golden Week is one of the longest holiday seasons in Japan - encouraging both locals and foreigners to honor the event in traditional ways. This year, the celebrations start on Monday April 29 and continue up to Sunday May 5 - with May 6 also being a day off for the Japanese.

Golden Week opens on April 29 with Showa Day - memorializing Emperor Showa, Japan’s longest-reigning emperor from 1926-1989.  On May 3, the whole of Japan commemorates Constitution Day - honoring the 1947 Constitution of Japan, the new fundamental law for post-World War II Japan.

This is followed by Greenery Day on May 4. Praising the outdoors, the holiday was originally established for Emperor Showa’s love of nature. Usually, parks and gardens offer free entry to their visitors on this day.

The last in the sequence is Children’s Day on May 5. Children’s Day, as the name implies, is meant to honor the children of Japan. Previously, the holiday was called Tango no Sekku (Boy’s Day), and celebrated only boys. As a result, many Japanese people still view the day as an occasion to primarily honor boys.

Everdome is delighted to host this celebration inside our metaverse city - inviting all Evernauts to join, uncover Japanese festivals and traditions, as well as celebrate all together under one virtual roof.

The “Japanese Golden Week” space will be running for one week - join here to discover more about the culture of the Japanese members of our metaverse community.
